Ezeaku Formation Calcarenaceous Sandstone Facies at Abini, Cross River State, Nigeria

Mineralogical and paleocurrent studies of Amasiri Sandstone, a member Ezeaku Group outcropping as ridge in Abini were done to determine the quantitative values component minerals for proper designation facies sandstone direction paleocurrent. Sampling, measurements, petrographic X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses employed achieve results. Three highly indurated beds white fine – medium, angular - subrounded grained sandstones observed. The basal second had thin laminations, whereas third was massive. is found be hybrid facies, it not quartz arenite neither calcareous sandstone. Calcite (CaCo3) most abundant mineral ranging from 43% 66%, with an average 51.39%. seen occurring skeletal grains sparry calcite, corroding, replacing grains. Quartz (SiO2) ranges 3% 37.6% 17.22%, detrital authigenic overgrowth. Monocrystalline polycrystalline occur, monocrystalline dominating. Feldspars such albite, plagioclase, sanidine orthoclase potasssic feldspars Silica, iron oxide observed cementing materials. SE. angularity implies source area close proximity. Therefore, could inferred Oban Massif or Cameroun Mountains.
